We present a code for combined forward and inverse tomographic modeling based on active seismic refraction profiling data (PROFIT - Profile Forward and Inverse Tomographic modeling). The PROFIT code is created using the FORTRAN-90 programming language and is designed for both MS Windows and LINUX OS.

The code is relatively simple in operating and optimizes computation time (for example an outdated laptop of 700 Mhz of CPU speed performs the inversion for ~2000 rays in 9 iterations including 2D ray tracing and inversion in each step in about 30 minutes). The code consists of program blocks (e.g. separate programs for velocity model definition, ray tracing, parameterization, inversion). They can be combined in different orders and can be used for different purposes.

Detailed description of the PROFIT algorithm can be downloaded as PDF document: profit_description.pdf (1 492 Kb)

How to start working with PROFIT? How to learn the code in an easiest way? We present a brief manual composed of several lessons which will help to learn the main features of the algorithm and to perfom practical work on processing real data. This manual can be downloaded as PDF document:
to_get_started.pdf (1 498 Kb)

The full version of the PROFIT code includes all the Fortran texts and a lot of different examples.

WINDOWS version: profit_04_srce_win.zip (3 126 Kb) . This version performs calculations and provides pictures in PNG format in folder "PICS" and corresponding subfolders. Higher quality pictures can be created using SURFER software based on "'.grd", ".dat" and ".bln" files created by the programs.

LINUX version (created by Kirill Gadylshin): profit_04_srce_linux.zip (4 197 Kb) . This version includes GMT scripts for automatic visualization of the results as high quality PS pictures in folder "PICS". Furthermore, the preview pictires in PNG format are created and stored in the same folder. In case if one wishes to re-compile the programs, all "makefiles" with all necessary settings and subroutine lists are available.

PNG pictures with results of processing of all testing examples can be found here: pics.zip (40 942 Kb) .
